FREE How-To-Draw Art Tutorials
I LOVED creating these how-to-draw lessons for your artists at home in the spring of 2020. I missed my art student here in the studio, and wanted to connect with them online. I also wanted to give parents a break during that #stayathome season.
Now they’re ALL IN ONE PLACE for YOUR kids at home. You’ll have access to all 26 quick videos inside your own little Library. I hope they inspire your kids to KEEP CREATING!
Keep creating!

Art Showcase at Home
CREATING A HAPPY GALLERY WALL
Everyone I know is watching The Home Edit! Yessssss! Why not make a special wall or hall around your home super happy, too?
I can PROMISE you my laundry room doesn’t look like this photo most days! I did tidy to show you that despite the USUAL loads of “clean but unfolded” laundry all over the place, this room makes my heart so HAPPY. Because it’s filled to the brim with years of my kids’ creations.
Don’t stress! Hanging up and showing off your kids’ artwork should NOT induce anxiety!
It’s best to find a place in your home that can handle ALL the goods - as in, ART EVERYWHERE! This could be your laundry room, a stairwell, a playroom, a wall in your child’s room, or even a bathroom! Let them know their artwork gives you joy and pride. Mix up some colorful/fun family photos or notes you treasure along with your artworks. This is all about creating a happy place.
Use cheap frames, nice frames, washi tape, masking tape, or stick pins. This is the chance to embrace imperfection and just begin. Filling a wall or a hall somewhere in your home with ART will fill your artist's’ love cup. They’ll know you’re so super proud of them.
When looking at a blank wall, I always begin in the middle. That way as our collection of art can grow “up and out” over the months or years. I literally “eyeball” frames or papers to hang up. I try to have around 2-3 inches around each piece so that there’s a little order to the fun chaos.
Your child’s artwork will mature and evolve as they grow older, and I believe WHOLEHEARTEDLY that you should not have to “change out” artworks each year. Just keep adding works to create their “art journeys” made visible. It is so common for children to look at their work from the past (even last year) and say they don’t like it…. your job is to remind them of how much they grow each year, and how PROUD you are of their work! If they are absolutely determined to have a piece taken down, then by all means honor that…but usually a situation like that is a great chance to talk to your awesome artist about growth and maturity as an artist, and grace towards themselves!
I hope this little post inspires you to just begin! Keep creating, my friends!

Women's “THE ART OF PLAY” Workshop
This post contains affiliate links. I want to share what inspires me!
My heart is SO FULL from spending time with these ladies in the studio! THANK YOU for being brave, opening your heart to try new things, and being YOU! I was so encouraged by all of these gals… new friends and old. Both Thursday and Friday nights were full of fun, laughter, and not taking ourselves so seriously.
My hope is that the women left the workshop feeling energized, inspired and encouraged to BE who they were made to be - unique, amazing women capable of ALL kinds of creating, making, and enjoying life!
We began the evening with introductions, practiced blind contour drawings, then wrapped up with PLAYING - creating a series of mixed media abstracts, and eventually working on our journal covers. We talked about making time to create, self-care, and (OF COURSE) The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron. I also brought out a few favorite inspirational magazines and books: Flow Magazine, Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon, and 50 Ways to Draw Your Beautiful, Ordinary Life by Flow Magazine.
This was the description these brave women signed up for (and hopefully what they experienced):
Do you feel that you’re creative - but need a spark to begin making again? Do you feel like you “should” be making art - but aren’t? Do you love to paint and explore, but always put it off - caring for other priorities instead? Do you just want to come be free and MAKE ART one evening with amazing women?
If there was a resounding “YES!” to any of these questions, come join us in the studio for this special women’s workshop. When KIDS are hosted in the art studio, they are encouraged to be FREE and PLAY. And put away perfectionism and expectations. Guess what…we women need that, too!
This time of freedom and exploration of different art mediums will inspire you to “begin again!” This workshop is for ALL levels…novices and pros both welcome.
i look forward to seeing y’all soon in the studio! there will certainly be more of creative evenings like this!
