Supply List

Here are the recommended items for Art School!

You will most likely have most of these already at home! Walmart, Michael’s, or your local dollar craft may have some items. Be sure to hunt around the house before purchasing anything! The links to the right are affiliate links, which means I make a small percentage of items you purchase.

Please know this initial investment in the basics will absolutely be worth it…these supplies don’t have an expiration date, and will further your child’s creativity and learning.

If you only want to invest in basic supplies before digging in, check out the BOLD items below. I suggest TEMPERA CAKES , SULPHITE DRAWING PAPER, OIL PASTELS & CHALK PASTELS. Many lessons include downloadable PDF’s, so a home printer is a great idea, too.

  • Tempera cakes - these are fantastic, and will be used throughout the year. My FAVORITE art supply. Any colors (but make sure you have a peach and a brown - I LOVE the multicultural set, but it’s not a requirement. The small set mini’s would be great for a solo artist. Bigger sets are great for siblings to share.

  • Sulphite drawing paper - at least 80lb, both 9x12 size, and 12x18 size. This will be used for both drawing and painting. Dick Blick link offers reams of 100 that are cheaper, Amazon links offer reams of 500.

  • A (9x12 or 8.5x11) sketchbook/journal with unlined pages. I prefer hardbound journals (your local craft store has one for under $10, for sure).

  • A home printer for templates & lessons

  • Paintbrushes

  • Pencils & erasers

  • Sharpies (we use black sharpies quite often)

  • A ruler

  • Sakura Cray pas oil pastels

  • Recommended: Colored Pencils, Crayons and Markers - any you have around the house.

  • Chalk Pastels: I recommend two sets if you have more than two artists at home. These can easily be broken in half to serve 2.
